BC Tree Fruits looks for big crop

BC Tree Fruits had a beautiful cherry set this year with a heavy bloom, said Laurel Van Dam, director of media relations for the Kelowna, British Columbia-based company.

“We could have almost double the crop of last season,” Laurel said.

Peak availability is expected July 10-25.

Timing is possibly five days earlier than normal, with supply extending to early August and peak sizes at 9.5 row, Van Dam said.

“We have had a positive growing season so far this year with a great bloom,” she said. “In the last two years the growers were hit hard by weather events — they are due for a good one!
