Four Star Fruit expects strong supply of Mexican grapes
Delano, Calif.-based Four Star Fruit, Inc. expects strong volume for this year’s Mexican table grape season. Each year, Four Star Fruit has had year-over-year volume growth. This year the company is expecting its volume growth to be up 25% – 30% due to its Mexican grape program.
Harvest has started in Mexico and grape volume will continue to ramp up as the summer months progress. The company said it is projecting good yield and great quality into late summer.
Grapes from Mexico are growing like gangbusters, and in ways that complement the U.S. domestic crop, according to Lance Jungmeyer, president at the Fresh Produce Association of the Americas. Farmers are planting as far south as Jalisco to enter earlier market windows.
Four Star Fruit growers are seeing a large volume of grapes coming off their vines this season.
“Our growers have committed to replanting the best industry varieties,” said Jack Campbell, long-term table grape grower-shipper. “We will be able to support strong retail promotions with the volumes we are projecting this season.”
The Mexican program allows Four Star Fruit to offer an un-interrupted yearly supply of table grapes. The ability to assist retailers in growing the table grape category, has been well received.
“Our commitment is to provide the consumer a great fresh grape experience. Our retail partners see the value in our ability to manage that end to end,” Campbell said.
