Greenhouse grower Cornucopia Farms expands in Georgia

Cornucopia Farms Inc. (CFI), a Marietta, Ga.-based early-stage company, is pleased to announce that construction has commenced on the expansion of its greenhouse hydroponic farm.

Cornucopia Farms Inc. (CFI), a Marietta, Ga.-based early-stage company, is pleased to announce that construction has commenced on the expansion of its greenhouse hydroponic farm.

The construction will double the production area under roof from the current 56,000 square feet to 131,000 square feet. This addition is expected to be completed by late spring 2021. The farm is located in Avera (GA), between Atlanta and Augusta.

The farm currently produces a variety of lettuce including Romaine, Bibb, Red and Green leaf, and culinary herbs. Once the new addition is complete, production levels are projected to reach 2 million heads of lettuce annually. CFI Management plans to expand the facility to a total 660,000 feet under roof during the remainder of 2021, which is projected to produce 12 million heads of leafy and 2 million pounds of culinary herbs to supply the regional market.

NGS (New Growing System, Spain), one of the world leaders in this field, continues to provide the advanced greenhouse hydroponic technology for the project.

Funding for the current expansion was provided by private local sources.

William Rodriguez, CEO of the Company, says: “We are finding a great deal of interest in our produce – both lettuce and herbs – from several major retail outlets and distributors. To our knowledge, no other grower in our immediate market area offers both ‘Georgia Grown’ and ‘Organic’ labels for their products. The demand for locally grown and especially organic fruits and vegetables continues to increase by double digits, and we don’t anticipate any slowdown in this trend in the near future.”

CFI Management plans to build and operate a series of greenhouse hydroponic farms, both in Georgia and other southeastern states of the U.S. in the next several years.
