Peru’s grape exports show big export growth

Exports of Peruvian grapes totaled $521.8 million in the first six months of the year, up 29% from the same period a year ago.

Exports of Peruvian grapes totaled $521.8 million in the first six months of the year, up 29% from the same period a year ago.

The export numbers were published by the Agro-Export Management of the Association of Exporters (ADEX).

The U.S., with $240.6 million in Peruvian grape shipments, accounted for 46% of the total, according to ADEX. The U.S. was followed in importance by Hong Kong ($80.6 million), the Netherlands ($56 million), Mexico ($23 million), and China ($21.7 million).

Trade agreements and efforts by Peru plant health officials have expanded the reach of grape exports, according to a news release.

Last year the world grape market amounted to $10.17 billion, 5.8% higher than the previous year.

The U.S. accounted for 18.5% of total world grape exports, followed by the Netherlands 8.1% and Germany with 7.8%, according to the release.

Last year, the average FOB price of the conventional Peruvian grape was $2.43 per kilo, according to the release.
