Rainier Fruit anticipates great cherry season

“Crop load is generally very average, which means fruit size will be ideal with promotable volumes,” said Tyler Johnson, sales manager for the Selah, Wash.-based company.

Rainier Fruit Co. is excited for the upcoming cherry season, says Tyler Johnson, sales manager for the Selah, Wash.-based company.

“Crop load is generally very average, which means fruit size will be ideal with promotable volumes,” Johnson said. “Mother Nature is still in charge so there’s no guarantee we’ll get away without major weather events, but for now we’re set up for a really solid season of great quality fruit.”

Johnson said Rainier has been replacing old plantings with new varieties in high-density trellis systems.

“We’ve been working for many years to increase acreage of premium varietals like skeena that give a better eating experience than many older varietals,” Johnson said. “Light sweet rainiers are another focus of ours, which are certainly more difficult to grow and pack but we know there’s growing demand for their super-sweet flavor.”

Johnson said Rainier Fruit has a great team with a mix of youth and experience.

“We’re looking forward to another year of working together to ship the best the Northwest has to offer,” Johnson said.
