The USDA has made an $18 million purchase of fresh apples to be distributed to child nutrition and other related domestic food assistance programs for fiscal year 2024 under Section 32.

The purchase is the result of offers received in response to an earlier USDA solicitation, according to a news release.

The USDA said the fresh apples were purchased on an fob destination basis, with deliveries to be made from Feb. 26 and Aug. 28 this year.

The USDA purchased 904,596 cartons for a total price of $18.1 million, according to the release. The cost of the apples varied from $11.33 to $27.05 per carton, the USDA said.
