The second largest grocery chain in Texas is adding two new, larger stores in central Texas. Both stores are adding new features to the chain’s traditional format.
San Antonio, Texas-based H-E-B Grocery Co. has opened one new store in New Braunfels, and another to be built in Georgetown, according to a news release.
The New Braunfels store is the first H-E-B location to feature a “Home by H-E-B” department and a two-story True Texas BBQ restaurant. The company plans to open more such departments inside additional locations throughout the year.
“We are thrilled to bring a new store to New Braunfels, which introduces our customers to some exciting features and departments that are firsts for our company,” Julie Bedingfield, public affairs manager at H-E-B, said in the release.
This new, 122,000-square-foot store replaces a former H-E-B location that opened in 1994. It’s also larger than its predecessor, at about 40,000 square feet.
The Georgetown location, which H-E-B has already started constructing, will also be larger and include new features, including another True Texas BBQ restaurant, according to the release.
“We are thrilled to bring a new store to Georgetown, a growing community we’ve proudly been a part of for more than 55 years,” Cathy Harm, group vice president at Central Texas at H-E-B, said in the release. “We look forward to serving this community with a larger store that offers a wide assortment of products and services.”
The Georgetown store is expected to be completed sometime in spring 2023 and will replace the former 67,000-square-foot H-E-B store, which opened in 1989. At 121,000 square feet, the new store will be 54,000 square feet larger.
