Yakima, Wash.-based Domex Superfresh Growers said new insights from two national retailers’ databases highlight demographic trends and opportunities for Pink Lady apples at retail.

These new trends showcase the variety’s strong appeal among affluent, career-oriented consumers and offer valuable opportunities to understand Pink Lady customers better and tailor marketing efforts effectively, according to a news release.

The data highlights that Pink Lady apple buyers tend to skew slightly younger than the overall apple category, with individuals aged 30-49 composing a significant portion of the market. Superfresh Growers said this demographic, often in the prime of their careers, demonstrates a keen interest in high-quality, health-conscious products such as Pink Lady apples. Additionally, the findings show households earning $150,000 or more annually are notably more inclined to purchase organic Pink Lady apples.

Superfresh Growers said the combination of age and income insights paints a clear picture of Pink Lady customers as affluent professionals who value premium quality and refined taste.

The grower and marketer said that organic Pink Lady apples align well with these preferences, making them an ideal choice for thoughtful, luxurious gifting. And retailers have an opportunity to position Pink Lady apples as a versatile and elegant way to celebrate moms with Mother’s Day promotions on the horizon, the release said.

February marks the peak sales month for Pink Lady apples, according to seasonal data. Pink Lady’s rise in February creates an ideal foundation for retailers to extend promotions into May, the release said.

The vibrant pink hues, crisp texture, and distinctive tart-sweet flavor make them a standout ingredient or gift for Mother’s Day celebrations, reflecting the sentiments of love and care associated with the holiday, according to Superfresh Growers. Whether featured in recipes, presented as part of curated gift sets, or highlighted in regional campaigns, Pink Lady apples offer a way to honor moms with quality, health and style, the company says.

This retailer data highlights the immense potential for Pink Lady apples to resonate with a key demographic: younger, affluent, and health-conscious consumers, according to Superfresh Growers. Retailers can leverage these findings to target Pink Lady as a thoughtful gift or an essential ingredient for memorable recipes.

Superfresh Growers said demographic factors such as ethnicity, gender and household size show no significant deviations for Pink Lady apple consumption compared to the overall apple category, which highlights the variety’s broad appeal.
