California Giant Berry Farms says its philanthropic initiative, the California Giant Foundation, will distribute $60,000 to 10 nonprofit organizations.
The company said employee-led initiatives will benefit nonprofits that align with the pillars of the foundation, which includes combating childhood obesity, boosting childhood nutrition, hunger and food insecurity, prevention and awareness and community improvement.
“We are incredibly proud of our employees’ generosity and passion for giving back,” said Joe Barsi, president of California Giant Berry Farms, said in a news release. “Their dedication to making a positive impact on our community is inspiring and reflects the values that our company was founded upon.”
Beneficiaries include CASA of Monterey County, CASA of Santa Cruz County, CASA of Santa Barbara County, Jacob’s Heart Children’s Cancer Support Services, Seneca Central Coast, Monarch Services, Partnership for Children, Pajaro Valley Loaves and Fishes, Pajaro Valley Shelter Services, and Teen Kitchen Project.
California Giant said its employees continue to support the community with programs such as Santa’s Workshop, where employees sponsor families in need during the holiday seasons.
“California Giant Berry Farms has been an essential partner in supporting survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking in Santa Cruz County and the Pajaro Valley,” Janna Rivas, director of development at Monarch Services, said in the release. “Beyond their generous financial contributions, California Giant has sponsored our Stronger Together event, rallied over 40 runners, and provided holiday gifts and decorations for our shelter and Watsonville office. We are grateful for California Giant Berry Farms and their impactful leadership. Ending violence takes all of us, and your support makes a real difference in our community.”
