As the COVID-19 pandemic slowly begins to ease for the produce industry and the entire country, what were some of the lessons learned, principles that will help the industry better navigate the realities of today and the unforeseen crises of tomorrow? The focus of this whitepaper is drawing together observations and lessons learned from a survey deployed by the Equitable Food Initiative and The Packer about experiences during COVID-19. More than 50 produce organizations responded to the survey in March and April.

While there are continuing calls for building a more resilient global supply chain in a post-COVID-19 world, every size of fresh produce company can learn from this crisis and take steps to not only mitigate impacts from future crises, but prepare for them, whether in global markets, environment/climate issues or labor shortages. The goal is to learn from the strengths associated with success during the pandemic and build them into an organization’s culture, training, education and normal mode of operation.
