EarthDay.org, the global organizer of Earth Day on April 22, launched its regenerative agriculture program raise awareness of its positive impact on the environment, public health and food justice.
This way of farming restores soil, organic matter and biodiversity while reducing atmospheric carbon, according to a news release. The evolving, holistic approach boosts topsoil, food production and farmers’ incomes.
“The agriculture sector is one of the largest contributors to climate change, and regenerative ag has the power to change that by rehabilitating our soils and enhancing our ecosystem,” Jillian Semaan, food and environment director, said in the release. “We need a food system that is dependable and capable of high quality, nutrient dense foods that does not continuously degrade our soils.”
This program is an integral part of the Earth Day 2021 theme, Restore Our Earth, which focuses on natural processes, emerging green technologies and innovative thinking that can restore the world’s ecosystems.
