World Packaging Organisation President Luciana Pellegrino and Soha Atallah, vice president of exhibitions and conferences, are representing the organization at the United Nations’ climate conference, COP28, in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

“WPO at COP28 is also a big step in the strategy of turning the organization and its members into the voice for the packaging industry around the globe,” Pellegrino said in a news release.

The WPO said Pellegrino was set to participate in “The Role of Sustainable Food Packaging and Processing in Achieving Food Security” panel at the event. The panel was to discuss the role of packaging advancement and showcase examples of best practices and available technology in packaging including circular and recyclable packaging and soft-electron technologies, according to the release.

Panelists also were to discuss how sustainable food packaging and processing can influence postharvest food losses and waste, value addition, export, footprint and policies that support a sustainable food system, the release said.

“At COP28 we will have the opportunity to raise the voice for packaging and share knowhow and data on how packaging makes a positive impact in society: either by bringing efficiency to supply chains or safety to consumers, and also by reducing waste and the carbon footprint related to it,” Pellegrino said.
