Glassbit, LLC, specializing in software tools for grower/shippers, has released a new version of its Glasschain Observations app.

The custom configurable mobile device app tool was created to record data for any type of inspection or observation and instantly notify farming, operations and commodity managers of issues or aggregate event data for deep analysis, according to a news release.

The app can use data from tablets, phones, laptops, value-added processing machines and internet-of-things devices. Use cases include product quality inspections, farming operations monitoring, retail shelf assessments, transport compliance and traceability, according to the release.

Observations app features include:

  • Commodity inspection template library including USDA-based criteria and scoring;
  • Photo capture from camera and image gallery;
  • Automatic GPS location and weather data correlation;
  • In-app email and text message notifications with custom observation reports; and
  • Enterprise-view monitoring dashboard.

The software-as-a-service licensing model eliminates the risk of solution lock-in, the release said. In addition, no “platform” commitment is required, and data is kept confidential.
