Exploring comparative organic commodity premiums at retail, the latest retail strategies to grow organic sales and sustainable packaging options for organic produce are just a few of the education session and speaker topics at The Packer’s Jan. 9-11 Global Organic Produce Expo.
The event, scheduled for the Fontainebleau Luxury Hotel in Miami Beach, Fla., will also be highlighted by multiple networking opportunities and a 4½-hour expo session on Jan. 11.

Antoni Porowski, food and wine connoisseur on the Emmy-winning Netflix series “Queer Eye,” will deliver a Jan. 11 keynote address at the show.
Beyond the Netflix series, Porowski brings a lifelong passion for food and a history of catering private events in and around New York.
“GOPEX is excited to showcase Antoni’s views and perspectives around fresh organic produce because he brings to light a generational shift in how we relate to food,” said Jessie Gunn, vice president of marketing and events for produce at The Packer and Farm Journal.
“Antoni believes all food has a story and the story to organic food is so powerful.”
Focus on organic
Research on retail price premiums for individual commodities will highlight the presentation by David Magaña, senior analyst for horticulture for Rabobank.
Magaña will consider strategies the organic supply chain must employ to manage the balancing act between increasing retailer demand and ensuring grower profitably.
Randy Riley, director of produce merchandising and procurement at Kroger, will be a part of a separate panel of retail experts who will consider trends behind organic growth, including supply, consumer demand, merchandising strategy, use of private labels and more.
Jennifer Tucker, deputy administrator of the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Agricultural Marketing Service National Organic Program, also is scheduled to speak at GOPEX.
Tucker is expected to take questions from attendees and will review NOP policy and enforcement issues.
Education opportunities at GOPEX will include sessions on sustainable packaging, effective organic messaging, climate change, logistics and food safety.
The program also includes a tour of the port of Miami, a networking event at Top Golf and an opportunity to participate in a beach clean up.
