Lef Farms, Loudon, N.H., is introducing another leafy green, dubbed Crisp, exclusively at Hannaford Bros. Supermarkets.
The company describes Crisp as an alternative to iceberg and romaine lettuce, with a “robust, crispy bite with a fresh, bright flavor,” and ideal for a sandwich addition or a salad foundation.
The company trialed different varieties with an emphasis on crunchiness, but with a unique flavor, which is a trademarks of Lef Farms’ products, according to a news release.
The company test marketed Crisp at northeastern retail chain Portland, Maine-based Hannaford Bros., and it will now be exclusively sold at the 181 Hannaford locations, according to the release. That decision gives Lef Farms with a strong distribution partner near its home base, it gives Hannaford a competitive point of differentiation, according to the release.
“We recognize that ‘local’ runs much deeper than just geography,” Kim Kuusela, local merchandising specialist at Hannaford Supermarkets, said in the release. “It's about giving our customers the opportunity to find a variety of local products to help preserve local farmland, local traditions and local jobs.”
Crisp is packed in 4-ounce clamshells.
