The Mushroom Council, Redwood Shores, Calif., is spotlighting different varieties throughout September, the 30th annual Mushroom Month.

At the start of each week in September, the organization is promoting consumption by highlighting varieties, according to a news release, using the #MushroomADay hashtag.

The varieties are: white buttons, week 1; crimini, week 2;  portabella, week 3; and specialties, week 4.

The council’s Facebook, Instagram and Twitter accounts will feature:

  • Social media personalities including @TangledwithTaste and @vindulge;
  • Cookbook author Andrea Slonecker;
  • Dietitians, including Mia Syn, Molly Cleary and Vandana Smith; and
  • Representatives from California Walnuts and National Turkey Federation.

“Throughout most of the spring and summer of 2020, weekly year-over-year retail sales for mushrooms have experienced an increase of at least 21%, illustrating that consumers are finding new and varying ways to enjoy fresh mushrooms,” Bart Minor, president and CEO of the Mushroom Council, said in the release. “Mushrooms have certainly moved up the staple scale in recent months, and we want to spend this important month showing just how easy and delicious it is to make mushrooms a daily choice.”
