The United Fresh Produce Association has chosen the 36 finalists for its 2018 Innovation Awards.
The products are competing in seven categories at the United Fresh Show, June 25-27 in Chicago. Two categories are new this year: Best New Indoor Growing Technology and Best New Field Technology.
“The fresh produce community is constantly adopting new strategies for growth at an innovative pace,” United Fresh President and CEO Tom Stenzel said in a news release. “From new varieties, brands and merchandising solutions, to advancements in automation, growing technologies and more, these awards shine a spotlight on the products and solutions that are driving the industry forward.”
Best New Food Safety Solution:
Camposol — The Berry That Cares, pesticide-free blueberries;
DNV GL-Business Assurance — Certificates in the Blockchain, blockchain technology;
Emerson Cargo Solutions — Oversight Mobile, access to real-time temperature and location data;
ImpactVision — FruitCam, software that provides information about the quality of food non-invasely;
Ivy Food Technology — Ivy, a blockchain-based solution to eliminate information redundancy; and
Natures Natural Solutions — Industrial Size Food Freshnes Card, technology to reduce food waste.
Best New Fruit Product:
Apeel Sciences, Apeel, which doubles the lifespan of post-harvest fruits and vegetables;
Crunch Pak — Paw Patrol Snack Trays, snack trays featuring PAW Patrol characters;
Naturipe Farms, Fruit Cups, 5-ounce fruit serving in heat-sealed pack; and
Stemilt Growers, Rave apples, juicy and refreshing apples;
Best New Packaging:

Growerstock — Produce on Demand, a trading platform for the fresh produce industry.
Best New Indoor Growing Technology:
Agrilyst — Agrilyst Mobile, an app designed for greenhouses/vertical farms to manage workflow, employees and crops.
Intelligrow: Autogrow, a cloud-based solution allowing growers to access, monitor and manager Intelligrow control systems from web-enabled devices.
Luna — IUNU, early detection of pests, diseases and deficiencies that affect crops.
The Award finalists will be displayed on the expo floor at the United Fresh show, and attendees can cast votes June 26 and up to 2 p.m. on June 27. Winners will be announced at 3 p.m. June 27 on the show floor.
