MountainKing Potatoes highlights grilling cross-promotion opportunity with display contest

Grilling is always a significant cross-merchandising opportunity for fresh produce, and this year it is the focus for Houston-based MountainKing Potatoes even more so than usual.

MountainKing is awarding a ThermoPro wireless meat thermometer every week through September to the produce manager with the best-looking retail display using its potatoes.

Grilling is always a significant cross-merchandising opportunity for fresh produce, and this year it is the focus for Houston-based MountainKing Potatoes even more so than usual.

Research firm NPD Group found that spending on grills jumped more than 50% in the second of 2020, and the vast majority of people who cook outdoors regularly say they plan to do so more frequently in the months ahead, according to a news release.

MountainKing always offers grilling-themed point-of-sale material for summer, but this year their offerings include high-graphic bins, enhanced signage, display sleeves and grill stickers.

“Fresh potatoes remain one of the most preferred side dishes with barbecue,” director of marketing Andreas Trettin said in the release. “We certainly expect this grilling season to be one of the strongest in recent memory.”

As part of the promotion, MountainKing will award a ThermoPro wireless meat thermometer every week through September to the produce manager with the best display of the company’s potatoes.
