New app developed for vegetable growers
Mississippi State University says a recently launched app provides quick access to pest management information to tomato and cucurbit growers.
The MyIPM for Vegetables app focuses on tomatoes, cucumbers, pumpkins, squash and watermelon.
“Unlike traditional publications, which often have long production times, existing app content can be updated, and new content can be added and made available to users at any time throughout the year,” Rebecca Melanson, plant pathologist with the Mississippi State University Extension, said in an extension news report.
Growers using the app can find photos and descriptions of diseases and insects and information on chemical, biological and cultural management methods.
The MSU extension service says the app includes a table of fungicides and insecticides labeled for use on cucurbits and tomatoes with relevant information including active ingredients, product names, efficacy, application rates, pre-harvest intervals, restricted-entry intervals and codes established by the Fungicide Resistance Action Committee and the Insecticide Resistance Action Committee for each disease and insect.
A Southern IPM Grant helped fund the development of the vegetable app by members of the Southeastern Vegetable Extension Workers Group, according to the MSu extension service. MyIPM also offers resources for fruit and nut growers, growers in Hawaii and more.
The app is available for Apple and Android devices.
