Volm Companies highlighted packaging automation and sustainable solutions at the 2026 International Fresh Produce Association’s Global Produce & Floral Show in Orlando, Florida, as produce businesses look for ways to improve efficiency and adapt to changing packaging requirements.

Daniel Mueller, president and CEO of Volm Companies and a third-generation member of the family business, joined The Packer to discuss the company’s latest offerings and the trends influencing produce packaging and automation.

Among the equipment showcased was an automated case packer designed to help operations adapt as retailers shift from flexible master packaging toward corrugated cases and reusable plastic containers.

Mueller said the shift is creating additional demand for automation that can improve throughput and reduce packing costs.

“We still see quite a bit of opportunities in the market to continue to automate and help our customers get better throughput and better cost savings,” Mueller said.

Sustainability is another area of focus. Mueller pointed to continued demand for recyclable packaging and reduced plastic use, with Volm offering options such as post-consumer recycled materials and paper-based packaging.

The company also sees opportunities to address rising labor costs through equipment that reduces manual packing and sorting, allowing employees to focus on other tasks within the facility.

Founded in 1954, Volm Companies has grown from a small family-run business in Wisconsin into a packaging and equipment company with more than 500 employees across North America.

Looking ahead, Mueller said Volm plans to continue developing packaging and automations that help customers manage costs and respond to changing industry needs.

“If people could take away one thing from our booth, it’s that we’re the single shop for their packing and packaging needs,” Mueller said.
