AgroFresh Solutions Inc. and Zest Labs Inc. have a strategic collaboration, adding Zest Fresh’s ability to calculate and communicate the freshness of produce through the supply chain to the FreshCloud Transit Insights platform.

The FreshCloud platform from AgroFresh is a “data-backed, insights-driven solution for monitoring produce quality” through the supply chain, and Zest Fresh is a post-harvest freshness management solution, according to a news release.

“As we continue to prioritize data and technology to enhance produce freshness and minimize food waste, this strategic collaboration will strengthen our existing portfolio, particularly our data-centric FreshCloud platform,” Jordi Ferre, CEO of AgroFresh, said in the release. “Zest Fresh is a natural fit with our FreshCloud Transit Insights solution and will accelerate the adoption of our technology to additional markets.”

Zest Labs CEO Peter Mehring said AgroFresh offering Zest Fresh is significant, because AgroFresh has more than 3,500 customers worldwide and can expand Zest Fresh’s use into new markets and new commodities.

“Our collective science-based, data-driven solutions and shared market vision for ensuring delivered freshness and reducing food waste provide a foundation for a successful partnership,” Mehring said in the release.

Zest Fresh uses analytics and freshness management expertise, which will complement the AgroFresh FreshCloud platform by strengthening the end-to-end visibility of key freshness metrics through distribution, according to the release.

Zest Fresh’s real-time data and analytics reduces waste and retail shrink by up to 50% or more, according to the release.
