Center for Produce Safety publishes key research insights, offers online resources

CPS has highlighted 2024 research results that it says deserve immediate action from food safety professionals.

The Center for Produce Safety has published its key insights from 2024 research.

This year’s CPS Research Symposium showcased 15 projects addressing key food safety priorities; the two-page highlight report and the full report are available on the group’s website, according to a news release.

CPS said research results that deserve immediate action from food safety professionals include:

  • Understanding the biology of birds can lead to improved risk management strategies.
  • If cleaning and sanitizing facilities and equipment, do it right.
  • Strict temperature control across the entire supply chain is important.
  • When testing human pathogens, make sure the lab is enriching the samples properly.

CPS said concepts that bear watching are:

  • Scientists are getting closer to fast, reliable detection of Cyclospora.
  • Zero Valent Iron, Shotgun Metagenomics, Chemical fingerprint and aptamer.
  • Cleaning and sanitation — listeria-specific bacteriophages and super-heated steam.
