Slater Vecchio, a legal firm specializing in personal injury claims, says it has filed a class action lawsuit for people in Quebec who purchased, consumed and got sick from cantaloupes in a salmonella outbreak.

The outbreak sickened 230 people in 38 states in the U.S., according to the Food and Drug Administration.

The law firm said the Canadian Food Inspection Agency and Health Canada issued a recall for Malichita-branded cantaloupes due to traces of salmonella discovered during testing on Nov. 1. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency expanded the recall to include Rudy-branded and pre-cut cantaloupe sold across the country.

Slater Vecchio said Health Canada reported 129 cases of salmonella, with 91 of those cases in Quebec. According to the firm, the outbreak hospitalized 44 people and killed 5.
