SmartWash Solutions, Salinas, Calif., shares its knowledge with the next generation of food safety experts by sponsoring an intern program.

The program allows the company to engage and educate students on food safety science, according to a news release.

“Students play an integral role in expanding the size and scope of research we perform,” Eric Wilhelmsen, senior research consultant and internship program lead, said in the release. “In addition to executing experiments, the interns learn best practices for conducting research and improving food safety.”

The program features a flexible curriculum to tailor it to students’ experience, and has a hands-on component with real-time experiments conducted by SmartWash. Interns assist with research and operations, including implementing planned experiments, interpreting experiment results and maintaining quality control of experiment processes, according to the release.
