At this year’s GOPEX in Aventura, Fla., runners and walkers will have the chance to lace up and toe the line at the first Sunrise 5K Walk/Run.

The race will begin at 6:45 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 14.

Danelle Huber, senior marketing manager for CMI Orchards, said the company’s sponsorship of the 5K was a natural fit.

“We decided to sponsor the 5K race because it aligns perfectly with our values of promoting health, community engagement and making a positive impact,” she said. “This event brings people together and we’re thrilled to support an initiative that encourages fitness and supports healthy lifestyles. Partnering with GOPEX allows us to give back to the industry that has supported us and to be part of something that brings us together.”

Huber said the CMI team is looking forward to connecting with GOPEX attendees who share a passion for organics.

“Organics have been part of our DNA since the very beginning, and we’ve always championed making space on the shelf for high-flavor, branded organic options that consumers love,” she said. “GOPEX’s focus on organics aligns perfectly with our commitment to innovation and sustainability, and we look forward to meaningful conversations that help drive the future of this vital segment forward.”

And to get ready for the race, Huber has some tips for runners and walkers, such as dynamic stretches to get blood flowing and proper nutrition.

“Think leg swings, arm circles and lunges. This helps improve flexibility, reduce the risk of injury and set you up for success on the course,” she said. “Don’t forget about hydration and fuel, and of course, make sure you fuel your body properly with a delicious apple.”

CMI will provide racers with a post-race apple snack, which Huber said will help runners and walkers rehydrate and get some much-needed post-race carbohydrates to aid in recovery.

“Apples are a sports nutrition powerhouse — 85% water for hydration, natural carbohydrates to fuel your performance and their peels are brimming with antioxidants and anti-inflammatory agents to speed recovery,” she said.
