The U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers in Pharr, Texas, found $11.6 million in suspected methamphetamine hidden inside a trailer load of fresh broccoli from Mexico.
The commercial shipment of fresh broccoli arrived at the Pharr International Bridge cargo facility on Nov. 13, and a Customs and Border Protection officer referred it to further inspection, which included a non-intrusive imaging exam, according to a news release. During the secondary inspection, officers found 330 packages weighing 581 pounds of alleged methamphetamine hidden in the trailer’s floor.
The agency’s Office of Field Operations at the facility seized the narcotics and tractor-trailer and arrested the driver.
