In an Oct. 18 announcement, the board of directors of Santa Paula, Calif.-based Calavo Growers, Inc. said the company will discontinue its Renaissance Food Group’s food processing operations at its Green Cove Springs, Fla., facility by mid-to-late November this year.

The company’s fresh avocado operations at the facility will continue and are not affected, according to the announcement. The closure will result in the reduction of approximately 150 jobs, the company said.

Calavo, through its Renaissance Food Group, will continue to serve its customers from its other food processing locations and is committed to providing a smooth transition for customers and employees, according to the release.

The closure of the facility was part of project Uno, a previously announced profit improvement program from Calavo.

Related to the closure of the food processing operation, Calavo estimates that total restructuring and related asset impairment charges will be approximately $16 million on a pre-tax basis. The company is looking at subleasing the former RFG facility which, if successful, will offset the costs, Calavo said.
