At California Giant, Watsonville, Calif., Christmas comes early.
The company prepares for the holiday through charity that includes Santa’s Workshop activities, adopting families to donate gifts to (with matching donations from company owners) and supporting other community organizations.
The company recently transformed its office lobby into Santa’s Workshop and invited families and children to participate in making crafts and meeting Santa, according to a news release. Proceeds from photos with Santa are being used to support local families.
The company has raised $11,000, allowing it to adopt 10 families with 30 children, 18 children at a foster center, and another 178 children in nearby counties through the Partnership for Children. Toys will also go to the Salvation Army, and groceries to Loaves and Fishes, according to the release.
“This is one of the many ways our staff works together all year to benefit others,” Joe Barsi, California Giant chief operating officer, said in the release. “Supporting our community during the holidays brings us closer together while bringing joy to those in need.”
California Giant and a local TV station sponsor Share Your Holiday, to support the Salvation Army. The event, on Dec. 6, brings locals to the California Giant cooling facility to donate money, blankets, toys, clothing and other items in a telethon-style format.
