The Texas International Produce Association and the Houston Fresh Fruit & Vegetable Association recently celebrated their merger with a golf tournament.

The first-ever TIPA-HFFVA Golf Tournament, held Sept. 27 at the Golf Club of Houston, brought together industry leaders, partners and friends for a day of competition, camaraderie and networking.

“We are extremely pleased with the success of this inaugural event,” Kyle Reeves, vice president of business development for Houston-based Foremost Fresh Direct and TIPA-HFFVA Golf Tournament chair, said in a news release. “We are so grateful for the outpouring of support from all participants, especially our generous sponsors who made it all possible. We’re super excited to continue building upon its success in years to come and the growth of the TIPA-HFFVA community.”

The organizations said the event’s impressive turnout reflected the enthusiasm surrounding their recent merger, strengthening the fresh produce supply chain’s engagement in the Houston community. The tournament was intended to provide a relaxed platform for players to network with key partners from across the supply chain, solidifying relationships and exploring future opportunities for collaboration.

“This tournament was not only about enjoying a round of golf; it was a celebration of unity, growth, and the future of our industry,” TIPA President and CEO Dante Galeazzi said in the release. “The merger with HFFVA marks a significant milestone for both associations, and we’re confident this collaboration will benefit our members and the region’s fresh produce community.”

“There is a tremendous opportunity for growth in Houston for the fresh produce supply chain, specifically with imports and exports,” said Jacquie Ediger, executive vice president of Foremost Fresh Direct and TIPA board member. “The merger of TIPA and HFFVA brings a new level of support, advocacy, and resources to the area, to help companies like ours and the produce industry grow trade and ultimately better serve Texas consumers with increased access to fresh produce year-round.”

Several sponsorships contributed by companies vital to the Houston food supply chain helped make the event possible, further emphasizing the importance of partnerships in the industry, the associations said. The tournament followed a perishable roundtable meeting held the previous day, hosted by Port Houston at the Custom Goods Services facility, in which TIPA-HFFVA was present to work on issues related to perishable commodities.
