Miami-based J&C Tropicals has appointed Jessie Capote as the firm’s new CEO.

Capote began as CEO Jan. 1, succeeding Carlos Capote, according to a news release.

Jessie Capote has been part of the J&C Tropicals team for more than 13 years, leading growth in the finance, farming and distribution operations, according to the release. He also has played a role in procuring produce from the U.S. and other countries.

“It means so much to me to lead this company,” he said in the release. “It’s more than business, it’s legacy.”

Working with his brothers, Adrian and Carlos, Capote has established and executed a new strategic vision for the nearly 60-year-old family business that will enhance its position in tropical produce and distribution, according to release.

J&C Tropicals is a third-generation family-owned business whose origins can be traced back to 19th century Cuba; the Florida-based company was organized in 1965, according to the release. J&C Tropicals has been recognized as a Great Place to Work Certified company for two years in a row.
