Philadelphia specialty wholesaler John Vena Inc. has hired Joe Killian to focus on the company’s business development in the retail sector.

Killian has a long history in the fresh produce industry. Most recently, he was director of operations at FarmArt Produce, a foodservice distributor in Folcroft, Pa., according to a news release.

Killian owned and operated a produce distribution business in the Delaware Valley for more than 10 years, expanding his business from a single-truck enterprise into an organization with a 10,000-square-foot distribution center and a seven-vehicle fleet, according to the release. He also spent a decade in sales with J. Ambrogi Foods, Thorofare, N.J., focusing on the Philadelphia region, according to the release.

“My time as an entrepreneur and manager has been valuable, but I most enjoy the strong business-to-business relationship aspect of this industry,” Killian said in the release.

In his new role, Killian will focus on John Vena Inc.’s retail growth strategy and oversee business development efforts in the grocery sector, concentrating on regional independent banners.
