The North Olympic Development Council in Washington has gathered locally raised funds to create the Olympic Peninsula Farmers Fund.

This program will provide pre-paid, long-term contracts to farmers to provide products to area food banks and feeding programs, said Karen Affeld, executive director of the council.

“We were able to quickly raise more than $50,000 that has been distributed to 12 area farmers, and we have commitments for an additional $20,000 that will allow us to do a second round of funding in late summer or early fall,” Affeld said.
