Seald Sweet looks for light Mexican grape supply until June
Mexico’s early grape outlook will be light in early May, with peak volume expected from early June to mid-July, said Rob Anderholt, West Coast division manager for Seald Sweet, Bakersfield, Calif. “Weather until now has been very cold and we are seeing a 10–15-day delay on early Hermosillo grape supply,” Anderholt said. No real volume, he said, will be available until June, with peak volumes June 5 through July 10. Seald Sweet has Mexican grapes in all Hermosillo growing regions as well as Caborca, he said. Anderholt said that early season grapes are lighter than last year, and very sporadic on bunch break, where the Caborca crop is seeing good bunch count and looks to be plentiful as in past years. Anderholt said organic grapes account for about 5% of the company’s Mexican volume and are growing each year.
