NEW YORK — Featuring the theme "Gratitude," the New York Produce Show, Dec. 5-7, drew more than 5,000 players from across the fresh produce supply chain to the Javits Center, where industry professionals discussed new products, promotional campaigns and more.

NatureSweet at NYPS
NatureSweet's Mary McGrath proved the greenhouse grower is on trend with new and upcoming snack items.

NatureSweet's Mary McGrath showcased the company's Constellation brand sweet and seedless Mini Sweet Peppers. These peppers are at approximately 14 Brix, said McGrath, who added that they are perfect for a veggie tray, charcuterie board or everyday snack. She also shared a mock-up of a one-bite snacking cucumber product that she said is coming soon.

Vick Family Farms at NYPS
Zeke Ferrell has recently returned to his family's sweetpotato business at Vick Family Farms.

At Vick Family Farms, Charlotte Vick introduced her son, Zeke Ferrell, to the produce industry. Ferrell recently returned to the family business to work in the packing shed and eventually all aspects of the company. "We're coming off a big holiday for the potato business, so we thought this was a good time to introduce Zeke to our customers," Vick told The Packer.

Ocean Mist at NYPS

Ocean Mist Farms' Mark Munger said the winter season for Ocean Mist artichokes is "in full force" in California's Coachella Valley. The company is focusing on a smooth transition to ample supplies from Coachella, just in time for the holidays, he added. Ocean Mist is also looking forward to marking its 100th anniversary in 2024.

Colombia Avocado Board
Jen Velasquez, FullTilt Marketing's newly promoted vice president of marketing, talked avocados from Colombia at the NYPS.

Given demand for the incredibly popular avocado, "there's room for everyone to play a role in year-round availability," said Jen Velasquez, representing the Colombia Avocado Board.

Herndon at NYPS
Madison Herndon and John Williams of L.G. Herndon Jr. Farms showed off the farm's Vidalia onions and packaged greens.

L.G. Herndon Jr. Farms displayed its packaged Vidalia onions and assortment of greens, including kale and collard greens. "Kale sales are steady," said John Williams. "While kale might not be the all-star it once was," it's still a solid performer, he added. Madison Herndon and Williams also discussed the benefits of year-round availability on sweet onions.

Avocados From Mexico's Alejandro Duran discussed upcoming avocado promotions.

Avocados From Mexico recognizes the dominance of Mexican avocados during this time of year and ramps up activations to help retailers score big returns by promoting the fruit, says the trade organization's Alejandro Duran.

NYPS Side Delights
Masser Family of Companies/Side Delights' Ryan Matter and Rachel Schoffstall featured potatoes in a variety of packaging options at the NYPS.

Masser Family of Companies and its Side Delights brand featured BioFlex sustainable packaging technology for both conventional and organic potato bags. BioFlex is a low-density polyethylene plastic that looks and works like most plastic containers but breaks down in landfill after two years, said Rachel Schoffstall.
