The USDA is inviting comments on its finding that fresh pineapples from Indonesia can safely be imported into the U.S.

In a Dec. 30 notice, the USDA advised the public that it prepared a pest risk analysis that evaluates the risks associated with importing fresh pineapple fruit (Ananas comosus) from Indonesia into the U.S.

“Based on the analysis, we have determined that the application of one or more phytosanitary measures will be sufficient to mitigate the risks of introducing or disseminating plant pests or noxious weeds via the importation of fresh pineapple fruit from Indonesia,” the USDA said.

The USDA said it will make the document available for review and comment by the public at regulations.gov until Feb 28.
