Great Place To Work and Fortune ranked Wegmans No. 1 on the 2024 Fortune Best Workplaces in Retail list. This award is based on an analysis of survey responses from over 123,000 employees at Great Place To Work certified companies in the retail industry, according to a news release.

Wegmans said this the ninth consecutive year that it has topped the list.

“There is nothing more important to us than being the best place to work for our people,” said Colleen Wegman, president and CEO for Wegmans Food Markets. “We believe the best way to serve our communities is by caring for our people. We are proud to celebrate nine years of this honor together and thank our people and customers for making it possible.”

Great Place To Work determines its lists using its proprietary methodology to evaluate and certify thousands of organizations in an ongoing annual workforce study, based on over 1.3 million survey responses and data from companies representing more than 8.2 million employees this year alone.

Survey responses reflect a comprehensive picture of the workplace experience, the release said. Honorees were selected based on their ability to offer positive outcomes for employees regardless of job role, race, gender, sexual orientation, work status or other demographic identifier.

“These companies not only outperform the average for their industry but have created workplaces that outshine the average in every category, proving the importance of building trust with workers, no matter the industry,” Michael C. Bush, CEO for Great Place To Work, said in the release.

In 2023, Wegmans said it also ranked as a Best Workplace for Parents, Best Workplace for Women, and was named to the People Companies That Care list.

The 2024 Best Workplaces in Retail list includes these grocers:

  • No. 1 — Wegmans Food Markets Inc., Rochester, N.Y.
  • No. 5 — Publix Super Markets, Lakeland, Fla.
  • No. 8 — Nugget Market Inc., Davis, Calif.
