Plant City, Fla.-based Wish Farms has established a growing operation in Oxnard, Calif.
“This is a move that aligns well with our strategy of smart, controlled growth,” James Peterson, vice president of sales and marketing for the company, said in a news release.
The first strawberry season in Oxnard for Wish Farms began in mid-January, and the company said volume is expected into May.
Darwin Reich, director of California operations for Wish Farms, said the Frontera variety will be the company’s exclusive variety for Oxnard.
“Quality and volume has proven favorable, and in-line with our expectations,” he said in the release.
With the addition of Oxnard acreage, the release said Wish Farms now has operations in the three major California strawberry growing regions of Salinas, Santa Maria and Oxnard.
“By expanding our footprint to this third region, it solidifies our position as a California grower, streamlines supply and opens the door for a more consistent brand presence west of the Mississippi,” Peterson said in the release.
