The Packer’s Global Organic Produce Expo (GOPEX) delivers valuable opportunities for fresh produce professionals from around the world to network, exchange ideas, source new products and services, and do business with the industry’s leading organic growers, distributors, packers, shippers, and retailers.

A deep dive into organic fruit and vegetable numbers and trends is on tap for The Packer’s online Global Organic Produce Expo, set for Jan. 25-28.

In a presentation scheduled for 1 p.m. Central on Jan. 26, speakers will explore organic fruit and vegetable data and trends found in the U.S. Department of Agriculture Organic Survey and research from the Organic Trade Association and The Packer’s Organic Fresh Trends 2021.

Tom Karst, editor of The Packer, will moderate the session that also features Lance Honig, crops branch chief for USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service and Angela Jagiello, director of education and insights at the Organic Trade Association.

Honig oversees all crop estimating programs at USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service, a responsibility that includes more than 200 official USDA reports each year covering acreage, yield, production, price and value for more than 100 commodities.

Honig, who grew up on a northeast Kansas farm, previously was the head of the Fruits, Vegetables and Special Crops Section and the head of the Field Crops Section before assuming his current position in 2008.

Jagiello has served in various marketing and public relations roles within the organic industry. Currently, she produces industry research and conferences and runs a speaker’s bureau for the organic association.

The Packer’s Global Organic Produce Expo has two parts this year: GOPEX Home, an online experience focused on education and perspective from industry leaders, and GOPEX Go, an in-person, COVID-conscious event scheduled for August. Register here
