Organic Trade Association names farm policy director

The Organic Trade Association has hired Johanna Mirenda as farm policy director.

The Organic Trade Association has hired Johanna Mirenda as farm policy director.

Mirenda has been technical director for the Organic Materials Review Institute since 2015. She has experience in policy development, project management and technical writing, according to a news release. She has overseen OMRI standards manuals, reviewing materials for the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Organic Program.

Before that, Mirenda was policy director for the Pennsylvania Certified Organic program, starting in 2012.

She joins the association’s regulatory staff Aug. 6.

At the Organic Trade Association, she will help develop policy strategy, working with growers and other organic producers, and will be lead technical expert on crop and livestock issues, according to the release. She succeeds Nate Lewis, who will be spending more time on his organic farm in Washington state.
