The U.S. Department of Agriculture is seeking nominations for five seats on the National Organics Standards Board, which recommends which substances can be used in organic production.
The 15-member NOSB also provides recommendations on issues involving the production, handling and processing of products in the USDA’s National Organic Program, according to the release.
The five-year terms available are for:
- A member with environmental protection/resource conservation;
- An owner/employee of an organic farm;
- An owner/employee of a retail store with “significant trade” in organic products; and
- Two owners/employees of a company that handles organic products.
Each member must attend two meetings a year and participate in bi-monthly conference calls. The USDA will reimburse members for travel and expenses, according to the release.
More information on the process is on the USDA’s Agricultural Marketing Service website.
Nominations may be e-mailed to Michelle.Arsenault@usda.gov.
