Coral Gables, Fla.-based Del Monte Fresh Produce N.A. said it has partnered with Apeel
to offer its customers longer-lasting avocados.

Apeel’s plant-based coating will allow fresh avocados to stay fresher two times longer, according to a news release.

Apeel’s edible coating doubles the shelf life of fresh produce by slowing the rate of water loss and oxidation, the release said.

“As one of the top three suppliers of avocados in the U.S., we are excited to offer our customers the option to work with Apeel,” Kirk Marquardt, vice president of avocado sales for Del Monte Fresh Produce, said in the release. “At Fresh Del Monte, sustainability is a top priority and we know that Apeel’s sustainable approach to reducing food waste will help to build a more resilient food system for the future. We are confident that our strong avocado program will continue to grow from this exciting partnership.”

With over 100 years of brand recognition and one of the newest and largest state of the art packing facilities in Mexico, Del Monte Fresh Produce will use the innovation of Apeel to provide new and more sustainable options to their customers, the release said.
