Mann Packing opens fifth processing facility

Mann Packing Co. Inc. has opened a 130,000-square-foot fresh-cut facility in Gonzales, Calif.

Mann Packing Co. Inc. has opened a 130,000-square-foot fresh-cut facility in Gonzales, Calif.

The Del Monte Fresh Produce N.A. Inc. subsidiary now has five processing facilities, according to a news release.

The fully automated operation has features to boost food safety and product quality, according to the company, including a cold chain from the arrival of raw produce to delivery of the final product. The Mann Packing plant has improved environmental monitoring and updated quality management system technology for instant information sharing, according to the release.

“Our commitment to our customers and consumers is to supply the freshest produce with optimum standards of food safety, quality and a never-ending improvement of our customer service,” Parker Javid, vice president of sales, said in the release.

The new facility has sanitation and cleaning protocols that include policies for face masks and hand sanitation, plus separate processing and raw material areas. It has a 250-foot-tall wind turbine to generate power and wash water will be reclaimed to use on local golf courses and city landscaping, according to the release.

The Gonzales facility will produce a variety of Mann products, including slaws, Nourish Bowl salads, fresh-cut fruit, Broccolini and Caulilini.

“With the opening of this safe and innovative facility we are so excited to continue to share with our consumers both new and existing products and continue to build a bright future together with them,” Javid said in the release.

Mann Packing also has processing facilities in Salinas, Chualar and Dehhi, California, and Yuma, Ariz.
