Del Monte’s Lazopoulos to retire; Dumas to be promoted

After more than 15 years with Coral Gables, Fla.-based Del Monte Fresh Produce N.A. Inc., Emanuel Lazopoulos plans to retire in April.

After more than 15 years with Coral Gables, Fla.-based Del Monte Fresh Produce N.A. Inc., Emanuel Lazopoulos plans to retire in April.

Lazopoulos, senior vice president of sales marketing and product management for North America, is retiring April 19, according to a news release.

Lazopoulos began working for Del Monte in June 2003 as a vice president for North America fresh-cut and he was promoted to senior vice-president of sales, marketing and product management for North America in June 2005.

Del Monte said in the release that Lazopoulos has been instrumental in growing the Del Monte North American business, including the expansion of the company’s fresh-cut operations.

“We extend our appreciation and gratitude to Emanuel for all his many contributions and we wish him all the best as he embarks on a new adventure in his life”, Youssef Zakharia, president and CEO, said in the release.

Lazopoulos was managing director of NewStar Fresh Foods LLC, Salinas, Calif., from 1996 to 2002, and was vice president of marketing for Banacol Marketing Corp. before that. He was featured in The Packer 25 in 2007, an annual list of prominent leaders in the fresh produce industry.

Dumas promoted

Del Monte also announced the promotion of Danny Dumas to senior vice president of sales, marketing and product management in North America, also effective April 19.

Del Monte said Dumas brings more than 20 years of experience in sales and marketing with the company and over 30 years in the industry. Dumas was vice president of North American sales and product management (banana and pineapple programs) since 2014, vice president Europe and Africa from 2010 to 2013 as well as district sales manager Canada. He joined Del Monte in 1998, in the company’s Montreal location. Before that, he was with Dole Fresh Fruit in Montreal for nine years.
