Organic indoor farmer Shenandoah Growers, Rockingham, Va., hired Cameron Geiger, former Walmart supply chain senior vice president, as chief operating officer for its next phase of growth.

Geiger has more than 30 years of experience in technology and supply chains and will report to Phillip Karp, president.

In his previous roles besides his supply chain leadership at Walmart U.S., Geiger was chief information officer at Walmart International. He is a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy.

“I am committed to helping ensure our company is well-positioned to meet booming demand efficiently and at scale, as the marketplace continues to trend towards healthy, flavorful, fresh food with a strong sustainability profile,” Geiger said in the release.

Shenandoah Growers is a U.S. Department of Agriculture-certified organic, soil-based indoor grower, with 12 facilities nationwide for growing, packing and logistics.

The company supplies more than 18,000 retail stores nationwide with organic culinary herbs, purees and leafy greens.

While the company has been growing for more than 25 years, the past year has accelerated that growth, with a 25% compound annual growth rate across its full business, including its That’s Tasty brand for consumers.

Shenandoah Growers is expanding its latest Generation 3 indoor biofarms, adding 10 million more pounds of produce in the next three years.

The company also added 15 dual-temperature trailers to meet demand from its retail partners and customers for its contract less-than-load freight services.
