What is the single most urgent shift the produce industry must make today to ensure it remains sustainable and profitable in 2030 and beyond?
“We have to become better at collaborating as an industry. There will always be competition in produce, and that’s healthy. But issues such as food safety, labor, water, transportation, technology, trade and regulatory compliance are bigger than any single company. … If we can combine collaboration, technology and the knowledge of experienced industry leaders with the perspective of the next generation, I think the produce industry will be in a very strong position.”
Hector Garza serves as director of industry relations for the Texas International Produce Association (TIPA), where he focuses on strengthening relationships among members, industry partners, government agencies and organizations throughout the U.S.-Mexico fresh produce supply chain.
His work includes member engagement, industry communications, event development and supporting initiatives that address the operational and trade issues affecting produce companies across Texas and Mexico.
