Stater Bros. Markets of San Bernardino, Calif., has promoted Mike Reed to senior vice president and chief financial officer. The promotion, effective immediately, follows the recent retirement of Dave Harris, former executive vice president for finance, chief financial officer and principal accounting officer, according to a news release.

Reed will report to CEO and Chairman Pete Van Helden and will be responsible for the financial accountability of the company, the release said. Additionally, Reed will continue overseeing the company’s real estate development and serving on the executive leadership team.

“It has been a pleasure working with Mike over the last several years as he has overseen the opening of several new stores and the remodeling of numerous existing locations,” Van Helden said in the release. “With Mike overseeing the company’s finances, Stater Bros. will be well-positioned for success well into the future.”

Reed has over 23 years of retail real estate development experience, according to the release. He has been a member of the Stater Bros. Markets team for nearly 10 years, joining the company in 2014 as a senior director in the real estate and property management department.

In 2016, he was promoted to vice president for real estate and, in 2018, was elevated to senior vice president for real estate and development, assuming responsibilities of construction, store design, equipment purchasing and facilities maintenance, which includes refrigeration, energy management, general maintenance and special maintenance projects.

In 2021, Reed took on his most recent role of senior vice president property development and finance, where he continued to oversee real estate development and assumed the additional responsibility of corporate finance and accounting operations. During that time, he was also tasked with integrating the company’s real estate and finance functions to help the company achieve greater operational efficiency.

Reed holds a Master of Science in food industry leadership from the University of Southern California and a Bachelor of Business Administration in finance from Boise State University, the release said. He sits on the board of directors of the Air Conditioning Contractors Association and currently serves as its treasurer. In addition, he is a trustee and current chairman of the Inland Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Trust Fund. Reed is also a member and past state retail chairman of the International Council of Shopping Centers.
