California table grape acreage in 2019 same as 2018

California table grape acreage for the 2019 crop, at 121,000 acres, was unchanged from the previous season’s acreage.

The leading variety, out of about 75 table grape varieties tracked in an annual grower survey, is flame seedless, at 14,606 acres in California, according to the results of an annual grower survey by the California Department of Food and Agriculture and the U.S. Department of Agriculture, through its National Agricultural Statistics Service.

Table grape growers had 9,000 non-bearing acres, according to the annual report.

Wine grape growers had about 635,000 total acres, with about 45,000 of them non-bearing. Raisin growers had a total of 153,000 acres, 4,000 being non-bearing, according to the report.

The top producing table grapes in California last season in acreage, not including non-bearing acres, were:

  • Flame seedless: 14,606;
  • Scarlet Royal: 6,810;
  • Crimson Seedless: 6,800;
  • Red globe: 6,529; and
  • Sugraone: 4,763.
