Watsonville, Calif., grower, shipper and wholesaler California Giant Berry Farms says its forecasts show good volumes for domestic blueberries — which is good news for retailers.

“We’re forecasting a strong harvest of domestic conventional and organic blueberries in the immediate months, from several different growing regions including California, Florida, Georgia and North Carolina,” Thomas Smith, director of sales at California Giant Berry Farms, said in the release. “This will all be followed by a large blueberry crop coming from the Pacific Northwest growing regions in early July.”

California Giant said it expects peak volumes of Florida-grown blueberries by mid-to-late April. Peak production for Georgia blueberries will hit in early May.

The grower said retailers should see promotable volumes from California’s Central Valley from mid-May to late June.

Organic supplies also look strong, said California Giant. Peak production will hit in early April, and organic production in the Central Valley will continue through May, the release said.

“We’re on the right track to have a very good supply of high-quality blueberries throughout the domestic season,” Smith said.
