As the California avocado season begins, marketer Index Fresh says it expects consistent crop size and availability.

“As a California company, the opening of our state’s harvest season is cause for excitement,” Keith Blanchard, Index Fresh field manager, said in a news release. “Our No. 1 job is providing expertise and personal service to growers and customers who rely on us for always showcasing the premium quality and local availability that define California avocados by Index Fresh.”

Index Fresh said the California Avocado Commission estimates the 2024 crop will be just over 200 million pounds total for the California avocado season, compared to an average of 250 million in previous seasons.

In addition to hass avocados, Index Fresh says it will offer Gem avocados from April to July, which are exclusive to California and boast an easy peel and rich, buttery flavor.

The company said it expects a consistent crop size and availability this year.

“A lot of it comes down to cultural practices. We’ve proven over time that the little things — timely size picking, pruning, canopy management — out in the field add up and make a huge difference in production,” Blanchard said. “Our agronomist continues to help Index Fresh growers achieve consistent yields, year after year, which in turn lets consumers know that the California season will deliver for them.”
