Pro*Act is asking growers to apply for $85,000 in Cultivating Change grants.

The program promotes “a culture of sustainability in the fresh food supply chain by encouraging innovation and environmentalism to local farms nationwide,” according to a news release.

Applications are being accepted through Dec. 15. A panel of industry professionals will review the proposals, and the general public can also vote on their favorites. Votes, and the panel review discussion, conclude on Jan. 31, according to the release.

Winners will be announced Feb. 4.

When the new round of grants is released, Pro*Act will have donated more than $300,000 through the Cultivating Change program. Pro*Act started it in 2015 as part of the company’s sustainability program, Greener Fields Together. Projects at more than 30 farms in 17 states have been funded through the program, according to the release.

“The Cultivating Change grant program shows us that Pro*Act understands the ways in which small farms often face funding gaps,” Arizona Microgreens Joseph Martinez said in the release. “This can make a huge difference for the viability of the farm. Winning a Cultivating Change grant closes the gap for us.”

Arizona Microgreens used a $5,000 Cultivating Change grant on a germination chamber, according to the release.
